For substantially complete manuscripts that need an experienced editor to refine clarity, flow, sentence-level effectiveness, grammar, usage, consistency, and readability throughout.

What you receive

First pass: a full edit of your manuscript in Track Changes, with queries in comments
Second pass: a final check to catch anything missed or introduced in the first pass
A clean copy with all changes accepted
A style sheet (plus a character or timeline list for fiction)
A one- to two-page developmental memo on structure and pacing
Answers to follow-up questions for 14 days

Both passes happen before you receive your edited manuscript.

Developmental Edit

Ideal for your project if you need to substantially revise your manuscript and want an experienced editor to analyze its structure, pacing, organization, argument, character development, clarity, voice, and overall effectiveness.

What you receive

First read: we read your whole manuscript straight through, as a reader would, noting where it grips and where it loses momentum
Second read: we go back through it closely, adding margin comments with suggested fixes throughout
An editorial letter (typically 10–20 pages) with a step-by-step revision plan
A chapter-by-chapter structural map
A 45–60-minute call to walk through the plan, and follow-up questions for 30 days

Both reads happen before you receive your feedback. If you’d like us to review your revised draft afterward, we’ll quote that separately.

This work comes out of your monthly hours.

Every retainer includes a style sheet for your organization, a monthly summary of the work done and hours used, standard turnaround of two business days per piece, and a quarterly check-in to make sure your tier still fits. Content development hours count at 1.25× against your monthly hours.

How the sample edit works

Before you commit to a full manuscript edit, we edit a short sample so you can see exactly what you’ll get.

Send us a 250-word sample of your writing and a short brief about your project.
The sample fee is $75.
Within 2–3 business days of payment, you receive your sample edited to the full standard of the service, with a short note explaining our changes.
If you go ahead, 100% of the sample fee is credited toward your project. If not, you keep the edited sample.

For very short texts, such as picture books, we skip the sample and quote from the full text.
